MASTER of the FEMALE HALF-LENGTHS , active second quarter of the 16th century

A Female Head

Date: about 1540
Medium: Oil on oak
Dimensions: 26.3 × 18.7 cm
Acquisition credit: Presented by Queen Victoria at the Prince Consort's wish, 1863

This fragment appears to be the head of a female saint, possibly the Magdalen.

It has in the past been attributed to Bernaert van Orley, but is now considered loosely related to the output of the Master of the Female Half-Lengths.
