ITALIAN, FLORENTINE

Saint Peter

Date: after 1365
Medium: Fresco
Dimensions: 42 x 33 cm
Acquisition credit: Layard Bequest, 1916

The saint has been identified as Peter. From the church of the Carmine in Florence; probably from the chapel of St Andrew there, founded by Ugolino di Bonsi after 1350. The work is concave, which suggests that it is from a vault. The damaged state of the fragment makes an attribution difficult, and it is not known who was responsible for the frescoes in this chapel.
