Portrait of a Lady and a Girl

Date: 1679
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 47.5 x 38.5 cm
Acquisition credit: Layard Bequest, 1913

The oranges held by the girl and the woman, and pointed to so deliberately by the girl, may well refer to the family's adherence to the cause of the House of Orange, or indicate that the sitters are members of the House of Orange. There is also an orange tree in the background.
