A Deerhound with Dead Game and Implements of the Chase

Date: 1708
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 173.5 x 157 cm
Acquisition credit: Bequeathed by Lord Colborne, 1854

On the ground lie a stag and a heron. Two hares, a gun and a horn are hung from the tree on the left. On the right a boy blows a hunting horn, and in the landscape beyond him a stag hunt is in progress.

This painting may have been commissioned by the Elector Palatine for his hunting lodge at Schloss Bensberg. Weenix was his court painter in 1708.
