Portrait of a Boy holding a Rose

Date: about 1660
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 93.4 x 64.8 cm
Acquisition credit: Bequeathed by Henry Vaughan, 1900

The portrait has been attributed to Fran├žois Duchastel, a Flemish painter who worked in Ghent. His work is not, however, well defined and such an attribution must remain tentative. The costume shows a Spanish influence and was worn in the Southern Netherlands in about 1660.
