Acquisition credit: Bequeathed by A.N. Manicoll, 1916; transferred from the Tate Gallery, 1956

This nineteenth-century landscape is falsely signed Matthijs Maris (1839 - 1917) who studied in The Hague and Antwerp as well as working in Paris and London. Although not by Maris it is probably the work of a close imitator.
